7/30/05 A Straight line

Mental heath experts say that our emotions should be a straight line with few fluctuations. Some good days and bad days are to be expected, but no large fluctuations that bring deep lows are considered healthy. And the flipside of this is that there are no high highs.

To me this straight line is a living death. A numbness that steals life’s passion. It is considered ‘manic’ to have high highs and low lows. But this is the stuff of life. To feel is to live. And in the end, the straight line is to avoid emotion, avoid feelings, to avoid life itself.
